Labyrinth Celesta, West Melton, near Christchurch

Labyrinth, West Melton

Labyrinth Celesta was mowed into West Melton turf in September 2004. It is an enlarged replica (49 meters in diameter) of the 11 circuit labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral in France, with an additional circular pathway on the outside, making 55 metres in diameter in total.

Labyrinth Celesta stands in a long and an ancient history of ways in which men and women sought to understanding and solve the riddles of life. Sometimes events were simply beyond comprehension, other life issues were complex and needed to be sorted out. The winding path through the labyrinth reflects the complexity of life. At the same time, however, it also offers a way into the very heart of matter at hand. To all who feel challenged to walk the labyrinth it holds the promise no one will be lost. Walking the labyrinth may be confrontational, but most probably you may find it healing too. As you walk its path allow yourself to get excited and inspired. Some say that, at any given time, walking Labyrinth Celesta is a peaceful and friendly experience. You are welcome to experience that for yourself.

Labyrinth Celesta is an exciting part of the activities we organize at the Centre for Loss and Healing. We use the Labyrinth as a tool for overcoming our inhibitions, to energize, to stimulate and to heal us. It is in accordance with its ancient history that we learn to celebrate our lifes' journey.
